David Thodey - Chairman
David Thodey was Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Telstra from May 2009 to 30 April 2015. David joined Telstra in April 2001 as Group Managing Director of Mobiles and in December 2002 was appointed Group Managing Director of Telstra Enterprise and Government. In this role, David was responsible for the company's corporate, government and large business customers in Australia and internationally. Before joining Telstra, David was Chief Executive Officer, Australia and New Zealand at IBM. During his 22 years at IBM, David held several senior executive positions in marketing and sales across Asia Pacific.
Besides his business experience, Mr Thodey has experience chairing numerous boards. In August 2015, he was announced as the incoming Chair of the CSIRO Board (commencing November 2015). In January 2013, David joined the Board of the GSM Association, the global body made up of carriers and related companies that supports the standardisation and deployment of mobile technology around the world. He was also Chair of Basketball Australia in 2008- 2010.
Mr Thodey has also taken a significant leadership role in the Australian business community, particularly during his involvement with the B20 in 2014. He is co- chair of the Infrastructure and Investment Taskforce of the Australian B20 leadership group – the business advisory forum of the G20.
Mr Thodey holds a Bachelor of Arts (Anthropology and English) from Victoria University, New Zealand, and completed the Kellogg Post-Graduate School General Management Program at Northwestern University in Chicago.
